Having already dined at the Mr Fox section (the second floor of the restaurant) of Mr & Mrs Fox for dinner a little while back, I was tempted to try Mrs Fox on the main floor. Mrs Fox is the more casual section, offering a different menu and atmosphere for diners. Though the menu is rather small, where Mrs Fox lacks on quantity, it makes up for in quality. Mr & Mrs Fox is a great option if you’re in the Quarry Bay area and are looking for a restaurant that offers classy comfort food in a modern setting.

To put it mildly, I have a slight obsession with calamari, so if I ever get the chance to order it when I’m out, I do (I also think I’ve said this in just about every restaurant post where calamari is included). We liked how Mr & Mrs Fox was attempting to switch things up on the traditional calamari/squid appetizer, though it could have done with a bolder tandoori taste.
Then (because who can be satisfied with just one starter, amiright?) we opted to throw in the Lamb Sausage “Merguez” ($85 HKD) with de puy lentils, smoked pork belly, coriander, and mint gremolata, since it just sounded too good to pass up. And, thankfully, it was. The lamb sausages were juicy and full of flavour and the lentils were a perfect addition, as it meant we didn’t feel too guilty for over-ordering since this was carb-free (basic foodie-logic right here).

For our mains we tried the Rigatoni Bolognese and Smoked Ricotta ($90 HKD) with stewed tomatoes and olive oil, because any dish with ricotta cheese in it has a 99% chance* of being delicious (*this is fact). Though not blow-your-mind amazing, this bolognese hit the spot: it was fresh, cooked al dente, and the ricotta was a mountain of creamy perfection.
Next up was the Black Angus BBQ Cheddar Burger ($95 HKD) with house cured bacon, caramelized onion, pickled chili, and fries. A burger and fries is one of the most basic dishes on any menu, so I’m always curious to see how the chef creates the burgers from one restaurant to the next. I’ve eaten some seriously bomb burgers (making the surge in my daily caloric intake and the tightening of my pants somewhat justifiable), but have also been left disappointed and unsatisfied a few too many times. With great delight, the burger at Mr & Mrs Fox was not only presented well (that “medium” tag is just too darn cute), but the pickled chili gave it a nice kick without overpowering the taste of the burger or the bacon. The fries were sprinkled with some kind of Cajun spice and were also finger-lickin’ good.
