Swire is on a roll as they open yet another restaurant (after The Continental in Admiralty and Public in Taikoo) in the heart of Hong Kong Island’s Eastern business district; Quarry Bay. Mr & Mrs Fox caters to a wide audience, offering three floors with distinct dining differences. Their food has a refined simplicity to it that leaves you wanting to try every dish on the menu, and their service is some of the best we’ve had at a modern restaurant that is still able to exude a sense of casual. Needless to say, Mr & Mrs Fox gets two thumbs way up for their all-around fantastic dining experience.
The ground floor offers drinks by the bar (with a seriously impressive draught beer set-up), and a more relaxed dining experience. The second floor is much more intimate, quiet, and has a different menu that has more typical dinner dishes (think steak, seafood platters, etc.). If you’re looking to host a private event, you can do so in their private dining room on the third floor. So, basically, Mr & Mrs Fox has got your dining needs totally covered.
Still in their soft opening (though they officially launch their full menu tomorrow!), we were able to try some items off their smaller menu and were not disappointed – we can’t wait to see what their full menu has to offer!
Food
To start, we had a beetroot salad and and crispy shrimp rolls. The beetroot salad was light and refreshing and had mini pancakes in it that were just so darn cute. The horseradish topping was a great addition to the dish, giving it a strong bite. The shrimp rolls were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and we loved the fresh mango salsa and avocado layer.
For our mains, we opted for the hanger steak and risotto and the steamed salmon and ginger. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and was incredibly juicy and tender. The risotto and balsamic glaze paired really well together, and we polished the plate off rather quickly. The salmon was cooked well and the ginger sauce it was in had a strong flavour, however, we found that the salmon itself lacked flavour.
We loved the presentation of both desserts ordered; it was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. The blood orange and chocolate ______ was so decadent; the chocolate was rich, the blood oranges were fresh, and the pudding was so rich and creamy. The lemon meringue and poppy seed cake with ice cream was also a hit. The lemon meringue almost looked as though it was frozen using liquid nitrogen as the outer part slowly melted and the inner part was still cool. The meringue had a very intense lemon flavour that we loved. The poppy seed cake had a more subtle flavour and paired well with the ice cream on top and the blueberries surrounding the dish.
